Inside the Box

Disc 01: The Basics

The lessons on this disc introduce SAT Tutor in a Box, and explain how to use it in order to maximize your benefit. The basic structure of the SAT is examined, as well as numerous ways you can overcome bad study habits you may be struggling with, including motivation and procrastination problems. How to take practice tests, how to use practice tests to increase your score, and how to take the real SAT are also all covered on this disc. Many students claim that this disc is their favorite, as so many of the study skills & techniques can be applied to an almost unlimited number of other situations, tests, and so on.

Disc 02: Sentence Completions

This disc examines sentence completion questions on the Critical Reading portion of the SAT. How to approach these questions is explained, and numerous example problems are fully examined.

Disc 03: Critical Reading

Disc 3 deals with how you can build your reading skills, and how you can apply these newfound skills to the Critical Reading portion of the SAT. Numerous example problems, involving both long and short reading passages, are fully explained.

Disc 04: The Essay

Disc 4 focuses on how you can improve your overall writing ability, and how you can bring these abilities to bear on the essay portion of the new SAT. The basic format of an expository writing essay (typically, one in which a point is argued) is studied and explained; following that, one dozen sample essay topics are examined, and an addtional one dozen model essays are presented and analyzed. Many students have claimed that the writing skills they have picked up from Disc 4 have proved invaluable in all situations where good expository writing skills are necessary.

Disc 05: Identifying Sentence Errors

Disc 5 is concerned with the Indentifying Sentence Errors questions of the SAT. First, the basic rules of grammar as tested on the SAT are all taught through example questions, then numerous sample questions are fully explained.

Disc 06: Improving Sentences & Paragraphs

Disc 6 first explains how you can increase your score on the Improving Sentences section of the SAT, with numerous sample questions fully explained. The second half of the disc examines the Improving Paragraphs section of the SAT, again with numerous sample questions fully explained.

Disc 07: Math A

Disc 7 primarily addresses many different math concepts. Integer manipulations, exponents, functions, algebra, prime factors, percentages, averages, and set operations are just some of the topics covered here.

Disc 08: Math B

Disc 8 extends the ‘math concepts’ approach, with examples of more advanced functions, probability and combination problems, logical statements, and compound interest. The bulk of this disc, however, is devoted to geometry as it is tested on the SAT. This disc is especially helpful to students who may have had trouble with geometry as it is presented in high school. For example, although proofs are not covered, area, length, slope, volume, special right triangles, similar triangles, arcs, sectors, volume, surface area, and perimeter are all explored–and these are all covered in the way they are tested on the SAT.

Disc 09: Math C – Multiple Choice Questions

Disc 9 consists of fourteen sets of multiple-choice questions, modeled on actual SAT questions. These are arranged in difficulty order, just as they would be on the actual test. Each group of 8 questions starts out easy, progresses through medium-difficulty questions, and concludes with some very challenging questions. Each question is fully explained on video, complete with diagrams, shortcuts, supporting math concepts, and so on.
